Sonam Yangji Sherpa Khambchay/Kathmandu—Korean company ‘ALT.OX’ has introduced an innovative oxygen-generating mask designed for high-altitude use in the Nepalese market. The product launch event was organized in Kathmandu’s Thamel area in collaboration with the Korea Tour and Trekking Operators Association of Nepal (KTTOAN).
The CEO of ALT.OX, Gwangho Ha, highlighted that the mask is particularly valuable for trekking at altitudes above 2,500 meters. The mask offers a convenient alternative to carrying bulky oxygen cylinders, providing a lighter and more practical solution for high-altitude trekkers. Weighing just 42 grams, the mask can supply oxygen for up to one hour and has been certified by the Korean government.
According to the company, the production and distribution of the mask have been ongoing for two years, with successful launches in Japan, the Philippines, and Vietnam. The company is now focusing on Nepal as a prime market due to its popularity as a trekking destination, particularly for high-altitude areas above 2,500 meters.
The mask generates oxygen automatically upon use, easing breathing during high-altitude activities. To activate the mask, users simply open the packet and remove the seals on both sides of the plastic compartments. The mask is designed to be user-friendly and is suitable for men, women, and children.
Before its official launch, the mask underwent successful testing at Everest Base Camp and other high-altitude regions in Nepal. It has also proven effective in fire incidents and other emergency situations. The brand ambassador for the mask is Kim Migon, a renowned mountaineer who has summited all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters and is recognized as Korea’s sixth mountaineer to achieve this feat.
The distribution of the mask in Nepal will be led by Wangchu Sherpa, Managing Director of Trekking Camp Nepal, ensuring the product reaches trekkers and climbers in the country.
