Rotaract District Committee, Rotary International District 3292 is all set to host the 9th edition of Rotaract Global Model United Nations (RGMUN), a reiteration of RGMUN 2013 hosted for the first time in Serbia. An annual International Model United Nations Conference dedicated to youth from all over the world and is organized by a Rotaract Club or a group of Rotaract Clubs. An academic simulation of the United Nations General assembly, Model United Nations helps to have a greater understanding not only of the UN but also of global issues, through an interactive and enjoyable educational experience. It is an attempt to engage students and youth with global challenges, and encourage them to think creatively with an international outlook to problem-solving, that attracts many of the brightest minds in the country. It’s an effort made to engage youths in discussing and formulating policies with a higher level of diplomacy and negotiation skills.
It provides a platform where young professionals, university students, youths with a passion for change, Rotaractors and Rotarians, the world over, can share their voice on global issues.
The aim of the conference is to establish a framework that enables young people to meet and discuss the current topics on the international agenda with the final goal of sending a youth message to the UN and other international organizations.
The conference also offers some great social benefits to all involved. Participants will have the opportunity to get to know young people from different cultural, economic and academic backgrounds. It is the combination of these factors that makes RGMUN an excellent opportunity for participants to engage in an experience that will build lasting friendships, some for a lifetime.
Each year the conference takes place in a different country and is organized by a different group of Rotaract Clubs. Since 2013, it has held successful editions of Rotaract Global MUN in Romania, United Kingdom, Serbia, USA (at the UN HQ), Bulgaria, Lebanon and India.
Among the two international RGMUN Conferences happening in 2019, one of them is being organized in Pokhara, Nepal and will be hosted by Rotaract District Committee, Rotary International District 3292 – Nepal and Bhutan. The event is scheduled for 21-24 August 2019 at Hotel Jal Mahal Pokhara. The organizers expect to have participants from different parts of the world. Likewise, the conference incorporates the discussions amongst the delegates on the most pressing issues within 4 committees of UN ( Security Council, United Nations Development Program, UNGA- Economic and Finance Committee and The United Nations Human Rights Committee). The designated chairs for each committee are composed of both international and Nepali individuals with adequate experience of moderating such conferences in the past. Delegates from different Asian and European countries have registered for the conference. The key highlights of the event include the Key-note Addresses from the senior ranking officials from United Nations and Nepal Government. The report is handed over to the UN on the annual Rotary-UN Day.
The registration deadline ends at 31st July and the participants can register by filling up the forms.
